One Hour One DJ is an independent website established in 2011 and based in Newcastle in the North East of England. We primarily do two things. Firstly, we write reviews, conduct interviews, and pen features about the world of dance music; primarily drum and bass but occasionally other genres and styles too. Our team of writers have an in-depth and sometimes slightly obsessive knowledge of dance and drum and bass music, and you can therefore always trust our verdict on new and forthcoming releases as being a reasoned and sincere one. In our pages you will also find interviews with producers both emerging and established, as well as thought pieces where we reflect on the major issues of the day as we see them.
Secondly, we cover and promote the local dance music scene in Newcastle and the North East. Since our inception back in 2011, we’ve mostly being doing this through our now acclaimed monthly guest mix series, where we invite one local DJ or group to produce an hour long mix that best represents their style. Alongside this, we also interview them, asking about their background, their music preferences, their aspirations, and usually their favourite cartoon characters too. Altogether, this provides emerging local DJs with a professional platform from which to promote themselves and enable their music to reach as wide an audience as possible. So far, our much sought after guest mix slot has played host to a plethora of North East talent, many of whom who have since gone on to perform at the some of the biggest clubs in the North country and sign record deals with some of the most exciting national and international record labels.
As well as this, we also co-host the Newcastle Beats Show on Gravity Radio North East on a biweekly basis, occasionally curate and promote club nights in Newcastle, and more generally loiter around the region’s various drinking establishments and record shops making nuisances of ourselves. If you are a musician and would like to know more, or are interested in either producing a mix for us or having us feature some of your music, please don’t hesitate to get in touch. Furthermore, we’re always looking for writers – no matter what music you’re into – to enhance our current pool of contributors, so please get in touch if you feel you have something to offer.
